Part of Round Rock’s first development, the Round Rock Original Plat contains some of the city’s most popular establishments. This area of downtown is a classic grid system with residential and commercial development.
The residential part of Round Rock Original Plat is nearer to the eastern side. Houses are small and Lustron-style in architecture. In the urban center of Round Rock, this neighborhood is great for cyclists and pedestrians who work close by and are interested in the city’s local culture.
To the north, Austin Avenue intersects with Round Rock Avenue to make the northern and western boundaries of Round Rock Original Plat. Round Rock Avenue cuts diagonally on the western side, separating the Round Rock Original Plat from Olsen. These streets terminate at the invisible eastern border of the neighborhood, just before Circle Drive begins. A canal following Park Avenue makes up the southern border completing the rectangular neighborhood boundaries.
While there are established chain establishments in the Round Rock Original Plat including Domino’s Pizza and Banana Republic, its draw is definitely the local eateries and retail stores. Adam’s Gift Shop is a boutique with housewares and gifts for those who need to buy for the person who already has everything. Tex Andwiches is a local alternative to Schlotzky’s Deli offering sandwiches and salads with classic sourdough bread. Main Street Grill, situated across the street from the Round Rock Library, offers patrons a more upscale dining experience complete with white tablecloths.
The must-see place in the Round Rock Original Plat is Round Rock Donuts. Established in 1926, this local bakery makes special orange-yellow glazed donuts that are enjoyed by locals, neighboring cities and people passing through. In addition to their “World Famous Round Rock Donuts,” the bakery sells fresh breads, pies, cakes and pastries. They even make wedding cakes.
