The Northwest Terrace subdivision of North Shoal Creek was built between 1966 and 1971. The Cottages of North Shoal Creek were built between 1997 and 1999. The total area of North Shoal Creek is just over one square mile, with 2,325 total residences, 796 of which are single family homes.

The neighborhood of North Shoal Creek is served by the renowned Austin Independent School District. The nearby Shoal Creek trail is 4.4 miles long and is dog friendly. Bikes are also permitted on the trail. New to the area are a public library and the Alamo Drafthouse, a movie theatre/restaurant combination.
