Hidden among natural oaks and rock formations, the Falls of San Gabriel is a planned community a few miles north of Georgetown in Williamson County. The area lies in a pocket between Williams Drive on the east and Booty’s Road on the west. It is about three miles from Interstate 35, and 30 miles north of downtown Austin.
The neighborhood is most famous for its hiking trail, a mile-long trek that winds through trees, cliffs, and waterfalls that lead into the nearby San Gabriel River. It is a popular place for locals to hike and look for wildlife. The falls are not far from Lake Georgetown, another outdoor destination. Cedar Breaks Park provides expansive views of the lake, camping, and access to the San Gabriel River Trail. Jim Hogg and Russell parks offer boating, fishing, and hunting opportunities.
Children can attend Frost Elementary School, Douglas Benold Middle School, Georgetown High School, or Gateway Preparatory School. College students can attend the highly-regarded Southwestern University and the local branch of Austin Community College.
For shopping and entertainment, residents head south on Williams Drive towards Georgetown. Wolf Ranch Town Center features several retail anchors and restaurants. Locals of all ages enjoy catching a movie at City Lights Theatres and hitting the bowling lanes with friends. San Gabriel Park provides fields for soccer, football, baseball, and softball, as well as picnic sites and a children’s play area. Nearby Bark Park offers recreation opportunities for off-leash dogs and their owners.
A natural, quiet setting coupled with fast access to suburban amenities and conveniences make the Falls of San Gabriel neighborhood one of Georgetown’s favorite hidden gems.
