The Park Central Area neighborhood is located less than 7 miles southwest of downtown Abilene, in west central Texas. This quiet, leafy neighborhood consists of mainly single-family homes and some apartment complexes.
U.S. Highway 83 (Texas Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway), U.S. Route 84, U.S. Route 277, and Southwest Drive are the main roads that connect Park Central Area with Abilene and its surrounding areas. Southwest Drive is a major commercial road lined with various businesses such as car dealerships, restaurants, furniture stores, and The Home Depot. The Mall of Abilene (4310 Buffalo Gap Road) is a seven-minute drive away from Park Central Area. CityLink offers an affordable transportation alternative. One of its routes links Park Central Area to Abilene. It runs from Monday through Saturday until 6:15 pm.
Park Central Area belongs to the Wylie Independent School District. As well as elementary, middle, and high schools, Abilene has several higher education institutions, both private and state-run and well within reach of Park Central Area.
Although Park Central Area has wide sidewalks, which are great for walking, there is no shortage of opportunities for exercising in the area. Red Bud Park, on South 32nd and South Willis, offers walking trails, soccer fields, and a YMCA-operated recreation center. This is just one of the parks in the amazing Abilene park system.
Among the attractions offered by the city of Abilene, and which the residents of Park Central Area can easily visit, is Frontier Texas!, a state-of-the-art museum of the American West that recreates the frontier spirit and history of this fascinating area.
