Located in the upper northern section of the city of Abilene is the neighborhood of North College. This Texas subdivision is situated in a prime section of the city, with Interstate 20 only one mile away and the 277 Winters Freeway a mere two miles to the west. The North College community sits between two major colleges, Hardin-Simmons University to the west and Abilene Christian University to the southeast.
The North College area has many things for its residents to do and see, given its proximity to two universities. Residents can take in a movie at the old-style Paramount Theatre or enjoy a flick from the car at the Town and Country Drive-In Theatre. Whitewood Lanes Bowling is also a popular local spot. For those who are interested in learning more about Abilene and its history, Frontier Texas is a wonderful place to get a feel for life as it was in the Old West.
First Baptist Church of Abilene is a landmark of sorts in the area, one of the first buildings erected after the town was founded. Other interesting spots to visit include the 12th Armored Division Memorial Museum Foundation, the Abilene Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Indian Cultural Center.
The North College community is in the Abilene Independent School District. Students going to public school can attend College Heights Elementary School, Travis Opportunity or Mann Middle School. High school students can attend Abilene High.
Medical care is available at Hendrick Medical Center, less than one mile away from the North College neighborhood.
