The Chimney Rock Area neighborhood is located in Abilene, Texas. This neighborhood follows a border of Winters Freeway on its east side. From here, its northern border follows Buffalo Gap Road onto Rebecca Lane, then forms a jagged line flowing south at Catclaw Drive and to Antilley Road. This road followed east then meets the highway again.
A web of intricately designed roads map residential areas here, working around certain nonresidential areas, one of which is in the southeast corner of Chimney Rock. This locale houses the Abilene Regional Medical Center.
At its previous location, and under its previous name, the Abilene Regional Medical Center performed the first open-heart surgery in Texas, in 1970. Now, its current location offers a 33-acre campus and employs 750 people with its broad spectrum of medical services.
North of this medical center is Vaughn Camp Park. It hugs a nice lake, and includes picnic tables, a playground, practice backstops, and tennis courts.
The neighborhood’s close proximity to the freeway make it a convenient location for the several hotels that abound here. Arrowhead Drive and Buffalo Gap Road are home to two that are within the neighborhood boundaries.
For those looking for some world-class golf, the Fairway course is in Chimney Rock Area, on Fairway Oaks Boulevard. This is the second of two courses operated by the Abilene Country Club, the first of which is at its clubhouse. The Fairway course is 7018 yards, par 72, and noted to be one of the best in Texas.
Fairways Development Reservoir Number 2 occupies a large, elongated area of Chimney Rock Area’s center.
