This Tennessee neighborhood is flat and has no large trees to block great skyline views. It is common to find residents walking on the wide sidewalks around the neighborhood. Watkins Park is located west of downtown Nashville. The borders of the neighborhood are the I-40/I-65 on the east, Herman Street on the north, the railroad tracks on the west, and Clifton Avenue and Charlotte Avenue on the south.

Watkins Park is one of the Nashville city parks. It has basketball and tennis courts, a baseball field, and walking trails. In warm weather, there is a sprayground for children. Residents enjoy taking their dogs for a walk in the park.

The Watkins Park Branch of the Nashville Public Library is located on 17th Avenue North, in the Watkins Park Community Center. It has all the usual library amenities as well as public computers with Internet access. The branch also offers story hours every Tuesday and Thursday.

Fisk University is located just north of the Watkins Park neighborhood. It is a small university with a strong liberal arts history. The Harvard Review places Fisk in the top 15 percent of universities in America, and it has also been rated as one of the top 100 best college buys. The campus is attractive and blends well with the neighborhood. The Carl Van Vechten Gallery is on the grounds of the university and contains some important works of art by Georgia O’Keefe and Pablo Picasso. It is open to the public.
