Tourism is a major industry in Tennessee, and it was the first state to develop its own department of tourism. The natural beauty of Tennessee is found in its 33 state parks that cover over 88 thousand acres.
Rice Hill sits close to the outdoor recreational opportunities at J. Percy Priest Lake. The lake, which lies only 15 minutes from Nashville, welcomes millions of visitors each year. The climate in this area allows for a long recreation season. Outdoor activities at the lake include fishing, camping, hiking, and horseback riding.
Tennessee features more than 127 museums and historic sites. The Rice Hill neighborhood itself sits near the Tennessee State Museum. Housed in the lower level for the James K. Polk Cultural Center, a variety of exhibits covers all phases of Tennessee’s history. Andrew “Old Hickory” Jackson was the 7th president of the United States and lived at The Hermitage. He was responsible for victory in the Battle of New Orleans during the War of 1812, and became the first Democratic president in 1828. His inaugural top hat is one of the items on display at the museum.
