Hermitage, Tennessee named for the Hermitage estate, which was the home of President Andrew Jackson. The town sits about 10 miles east of Nashville. On the north side of Hermitage, just south of Lebanon Pike and the Shiloh Plaza, is the small residential neighborhood of Oak Creek. Oak Creek is an established area with plenty of trees shading each lot. Its lanes wind lazily to connect with the busy Lebanon Pike.
Residents in the Oak Creek neighborhood are less than a mile from two grocery stores, service businesses, fast food, and casual restaurants. A YMCA is located in the Oakwood Commons Plaza within walking distance of Oak Creek. In addition, public transportation via the Nashville Metropolitan Transportation Authority (NMTA) is accessible from the shopping centers along Lebanon Pike and the intersecting Andrew Jackson Parkway.
Oak Creek is central to various outdoor recreation options including the mountain biking trails at the Shutes Branch Recreation Area, which is only three miles to the north. Golf enthusiasts may enjoy the 18-hole course at the Ravenwood Country Club, located about five miles from Oak Creek. The country club also has facilities for swimming and tennis.
Hermitage boasts several miles of Greenway Trails. South of the Ravenwood Country Club at the end of the Frontage Road is an entry point into the Greenway Trail. This trail is open to the public and winds its way through Hermitage until it reaches the Nashville Shores Park, which is adjacent to Interstate 40. Nashville Shores is a large water park, camping area, and marina that is popular with both area residents and tourists.
Cyclists can enjoy a ride along the Stones River Bike Path. There is an entrance off Lebanon Pike, east of the river. This path travels along the southern edge of Ravenwood Country Club and eventually ends at Two Rivers Park.
