Maxwell Place is characterized by one and two story garden homes with pillared porches. Most homes have attached garages. Yards are extremely small. Driveways are almost half of the front yard. Landscaping is neat and simple in these tiny yards. Houses are very close together. There are some fenced backyards. All homes have public sidewalks.
The only outlet to Maxwell Place is on Maxwell Road. Homes on Maxwell Road are on properties with lots of acreage. Many homes are set away from the road. Maxwell Road is just a small country road, though it does lead to more trafficked roadways.
Maxwell Place subdivision is part of an area that surrounds the J. Percy Priest Lake and its numerous recreational facilities. Maxwell Road travels northeast to the Four Corners Recreation Area on Priest Lake. This day use facility offers a boat launch, fishing, swimming, and picnicking. The park’s trails connect to a vast network of trails that wind around the reservoir and are popular amongst wildlife enthusiasts and hikers.
Murfreeseboro Pike is also easily accessed from Maxwell Road. The Pike leads to Stone River Road and the Hurricane Recreation Area which offer similar day use amenities. Other recreational areas on Priest Lake offer hunting, horseback riding, and overnight camping.
