Hazelwood is a residential neighborhood of Antioch. It is an established neighborhood built during the 1970s, with three- and four-bedroom houses and apartment complexes. The community has housing opportunities for singles, young couples, and families.
The neighborhood is an escape from the hustle and bustle of nearby Nashville. Although it is close to the attractions and tourist destinations of the city, the residents of the neighborhood have access to the outdoor opportunities in the Antioch area. Family-friendly activities for outdoor enthusiasts are close to Hazelwood. Long Hunter State Park is located along J. Percy Priest Lake. It is a favorite place for nature walks.
Sellars Farm State Archaeological Area is open to the public and is part of Long Hunter State Park. It is an educational and entertainment experience that is kid-friendly. A short loop trail takes visitors around Sellars Farm. The site contains remains of a Native American community from prehistoric times. Visitors can view small mounds that were once small houses with thatched roofs. Although these mounds have not been evacuated in years, pottery and eating utensils were found here in the 1800s by an archaeologist from Harvard.
A more modern home to visit is the Fontanel Mansion and Farm. The former home of entertainer Barbara Mandrell has 27,000 square feet and 18 rooms, plus a restaurant and amphitheater. Built in 1988, Fontanel is known as the largest log cabin in the world. The trails surrounding the mansion are for hiking and biking. The grounds were once a meeting place for the Confederates, then later became a hiding spot for Jesse and Frank James.
