The Hermitage is a community located 10 miles east of Nashville, Tennessee. It sprawls for several square miles combining residential neighborhoods with commercial areas and historic sites. Minutes from the center of Hermitage is the small neighborhood of Bret Ridge. Bret Ridge can be found south of Old Lebanon Dirt Road and east of the Andrew Jackson Parkway.
A residential area, Bret Ridge has mid-sized lots shaded by mature trees and is within walking distance of several businesses. To the north of the neighborhood is the Dodson Elementary School. Less than a mile south of Bret Ridge is the Northlake Village Shopping Center. This plaza has a large grocery store with a bakery and pharmacy. The plaza also has restaurants and other shops.
Bret Ridge residents can find additional shopping and dining options about two miles to the east at the Hermitage Hills Shopping Plaza. The Hermitage area post office and the Dupont-Tyler Middle School are minutes from the shopping plaza.
The Ravenwood Country Club is only four miles from Bret Ridge. A members club, Ravenwood is situated on 214-acres of rolling land overlooking the Stones River. It has an 18-hole golf course, Olympic-size swimming pool, and six lighted tennis courts. The country club is adjacent to Peeler Park.
Peeler Park is part of the Nashville/Davidson County Greenway Trail System. With multiple paths, it is a popular park for hiking and biking, as well as horseback riding. There is ample parking, and the trail includes shaded areas.
Less than 10 miles south of Bret Ridge is the Buchanan Log House. Built in the early 1800s, it was the home of James Buchanan and his family. It is open for tours.
