James Island Apartments for Rent
(show city information)Apartment Living on James Island puts you in the center of a bustling beach community atmosphere, with easy access to Downtown Charleston and the neighboring West Ashley area. However, it is James Island’s community events, historical significance, and proximity to Folly Beach that make it a truly special place to live.
A large sea island on the South Carolina coast, James Island is surrounded by Charleston Harbor and Wappoo Creek to the north, the Stono River and Johns Island to the west, and Morris Island and Folly Beach to the east. With Fort Johnson and Fort Sumter located along its northern shoreline, James Island had the historical distinction of being the spot at which the Civil War began when Confederate forces at Fort Johnson fired on Union troops at Fort Sumter. James Island continued to be of strategic importance throughout the remainder of the war and some of these historic sites are still open today. Residents and tourists alike visit Fort Lamar, the site of the Battle of Seccessionville, and Fort Sumter to drink in the history of these unique historic sites.
Despite its rich history and close proximity to historic downtown Charleston, it’s easy to “Live in the Now” on James Island. It’s not hard to be spontaneous with all of the great events and activities the town has to offer. Drive around the Charleston area and you will invariably see a car with a surf board on top bound for Folly Beach. Beachcombers love the wide stretches of sand and families enjoy Folly Beach’s entertainment, shopping, and dining options. The Folly Beach fishing pier provides a deep-sea fishing experience without the need for a boat and folks from all over the country are drawn to this coastline to experience the beauty of a Carolina sunset and a great view of the Morris Island Lighthouse. In keeping with South Carolina’s golf-happy reputation, James Island is home to two great courses- The Country Club of Charleston and Charleston City Golf Course. This is one town that makes finding all of your favorite activities a snap.
Community is a big part of what keeps James Island buzzing. Known for great community events, festivals, and music, James Island has become an unofficial setting for much of Charleston’s music scene. James Island County Park is part of a network of Charleston-area parks offering incredible community events all year long. A hub of activity, the park offers acres of walking trails, camping, fishing, crabbing, picnic areas, and dog runs. Visitors of all ages love the climbing wall and Splash Zone water park, and nature enthusiasts enjoy the kayak rentals that allow an even closer look at the beauty of this nature preserve from the water. Perhaps the most famous event at the county park is the annual Holiday Festival of Lights, a 3-mile stretch decorated with millions of winter light displays, an Enchanted Walking Trail, and Santa’s Village shops complete with roasting marshmallows and hot cocoa. This Charleston-area favorite is a tradition for residents and a must-see for visitors.
When you rent an apartment on James Island, you get the best of both worlds: the natural beauty of creeks and sounds, peppered with live oaks and beautiful sunsets and situated near I-26, 526, Downtown Charleston and MUSC. It’s a perfect medley of location and lifestyle all in one place!
