It is a short distance from downtown, from the University of South Carolina Campus, and an easy walk to Allen University or Benedict College. The boundaries of the neighborhood are Manning Avenue to the east, King Street to the south, Millwood Avenue to the west and Forest Drive to the north.

Martin Luther King Park is also located fairly near to Lyon Street. It boasts a community center, baseball fields, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, picnic tables and a playground.
