The Lyon Street neighborhood, in ZIP code 29204, is located right next to the Historic Waverly neighborhood. It is a short distance from downtown, from the University of South Carolina Campus, and an easy walk to Allen University or Benedict College. It is also very convenient to Provident Hospital which is located just across the northern border of the neighborhood. The boundaries of the neighborhood are Manning Avenue to the east, King Street to the south, Millwood Avenue to the west and Forest Drive to the north.

Martin Luther King Park is also located fairly near to Lyon Street. It boasts a community center, baseball fields, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, picnic tables and a playground.
