The West Oak Forest neighborhood is located in Charleston. The community is bounded by the Savannah Highway to the south, Briarcliff Drive to the west, South Sherwood Drive to the north, and Oak Forest Drive to the east.

The City of Charleston values its rich history, and many of the historical places in the city are close to West Oak Forest. The Charleston City Market on Meeting Street has been a public market since 1788, and the Market Building is more than 100 years old. The Old Slave Mart Museum on Chalmers Street recounts the role of Charleston in the slave trade from the 1800s. The Fort Sumter National Monument in Charleston Harbor chronicles Charleston’s important place in the history in the Civil War.
