Stratford Forest is one of the 27 subsections that are located within the Crowfield Plantation community, the largest master planned community in the Charleston metropolitan area. The boundaries for this subsection are St. James Avenue on the east, Crowfield Boulevard to the west, Londonderry Road and Queensbury Circle to the south and Claydon Court, Keighley Drive and Knottingham Drive to the north. It lies just east of The Hamlets.
Early neighborhoods in Crowfield Development were built by WestVaco Development Corporation in the late 1970s and early 80s. Development continued into the 21st century, and although most of the development is complete, a few homes are still being built in a few of the neighborhoods.
Residents can enjoy the four pools, two tennis courts, the lake, the golf course, six parks and 26 miles of trails that are located within Crowfield Plantation. It also offers easy access to downtown Charleston, to the Charleston Air Force Base and the Naval Weapons Station.
A great way to really enjoy the beautiful South Carolina weather and scenery is by taking a short trip to Givhans Ferry State Park. The park is located between Charleston and Goose Creek — 35 miles from Charleston. It was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression.
The park is situated along the Edisto River, the longest free-flowing blackwater river in North America. It is also part of the 56-mile long Edisto River Canoe and Kayak Trail which is located at the end of the popular 21-mile downstream trip from Colleton State Park. The park is known for its limestone river bluff and sinkholes, some of which are as much as six to eight feet deep.
