Sedgefield, one of the many subsections of Crowfield Plantation, is located directly west of the Strategic Weapons Facility and the Naval Weapons Station Charleston. The eastern boundary of this area is North Rhett Avenue and Military Road. The southernmost portion of Sedgefield is situated along Red Bank Road, and the northernmost portion lies along Belmar Avenue. The western edge of the community runs along Garwood Road.
Most of the homes in this subsection of Crowfield Plantation were built between about 1966 and about 1973; however, there are a few much newer residences that were constructed as recently as 2006. The newer homes are considerably larger than the older ones, which range from about 950 to 1,500 square feet. Houses of less than 1,500 square feet tend to be single-story ranch-type structures.
The fact that this area is filled with older homes also means that it is an area in which there are many more mature trees, so despite the small size of many of these homes, the land surrounding them is peaceful, relaxing and inviting, assuring area residents of enjoying some truly magnificent scenery in their yards or on their decks and patios.
The close proximity of Sedgefield to the Naval Weapons Station makes it an excellent location for young military families who are looking for housing.
Military personnel and their family members can take advantage of any of the numerous amenities that are located on the base. The commissary is located at the corner of Redbank Road and Webster Avenue. The facility, which was built in 2,000 boasts over 36,643 square feet of space and more than 18,000 different consumer items, including international and gourmet foods.
There are also several fitness centers on base, and they offer all of the high-end equipment that one would expect to find in the most well-known fitness center chains.
