Rosemont is a very old neighborhood with varying sized frame homes from the 1940s and 1950s located along the river that flows into Charleston Harbor. King Street Expressway borders the neighborhood to the east and Hagood Street to the south. Interstate 26 runs parallel with King Street Expressway providing easy access to outlying areas.
Just north of the neighborhood is the Palmetto Low Country Behavioral Health Hospital. To the east is the expansive Charleston Naval Complex.
The primarily residential neighborhood is criss-crossed with a network of interconnecting side streets making their way throughout the surrounding area of homes and businesses. The area has a varied selection of entertainment venues, bars, restaurants and a movie theater.
Rosemont is located near three historical Civil War cemeteries. Located south of the neighborhood is the Magnolia Cemetery designed in 1850. About 2,200 Civil War veterans, including five generals are buried at Magnolia. Most of the soldier’s names are known. Some soldiers are buried as unknown with only the battlefield where they fought as an identifier. Each October, the Confederate Heritage Trust hosts the annual Confederate Ghost Walk event depicting the lives of those buried at Magnolia.
Adjacent to Magnolia Cemetery is St. Lawrence Cemetery with intricate examples of delicate ironwork. St. Lawrence is a short walk from Magnolia. Another historical cemetery nearby is Bethany Cemetery with graves dating as far back as the early 1800s.
Located north of Rosemont is the Charleston International Airport. Accommodations convenient to Rosemont are the Star of America Motel, Lowndes Grove Plantation, Clarion Inn, and Econo Lodge.
