Devon Forest is located right off Highway 176 in Goose Creek, which is located just north of North Charleston. Goose Creek is situated along I-26 and at the border of the Charleston Naval Weapons Station. It is just 16 miles north of Charleston. The boundaries for this subdivision are St. James Avenue or Highway 176 to the east, Ashton Drive to the south, Kingsbridge Drive to the west and Merton Court and Hastings Drive to the north.
Homes in Devon Forest are somewhat small, ranging in size from roughly 1,000 to 1600 square feet. Almost all of the structures are one story residences, with the predominant architectural styles being ranch or traditional. Houses in this area were built between 1980 and 2000. The area is beautifully landscaped, and in some cases, residents are fortunate enough to have their backyards back onto wetlands, eliminating any concern of ever having neighbors so close that there is no privacy.
The area is ideal for people who work at the Naval Weapons Station Charleston (NAVWPNSTA CHASN) which is a United States Navy Base. It is located on the west bank of the Cooper River and is located in Goose Creek and nearby Hanahan. It is just north of Charleston.
The base consists of over 17,000 acres of land, and roughly 10,000 acres of forests and wetlands. Additionally, there are 16 miles of waterfront, four deep water piers, 3.8 miles of railroad, and roughly 292 miles of road. There are roughly 11,000 workers, including military, civil service and contractors that work on the base. Approximately 3,600 people live in on base housing.
The fact that Devon Forest is so convenient to the main arteries in Goose Creek makes it a convenient place to live for military and civil service personnel who work on the base.
