A former mill town, Kannapolis is reinventing itself as a world-renowned biotch center. The North Carolina Research Campus focuses on studying and understanding nutrition and disease. It is attracting scientists from all over the world to this small city 20 miles northeast of Charlotte, North Carolina.
The late Dale Earnhardt is one of Kannapolis’ hometown heroes. Earnhardt is a legend in the NASCAR racing world and was known as “The Intimidator.” The local Single A baseball team, an affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, bears his nickname.
Kannapolis, located in Cabarrus and Rowan Counties, is a mixture of old and new. Although old mill homes dot the areas around the land formerly used for textile mills, a new generation of large, stately homes have cropped up among the farms and rural countryside of this pleasant community.
