Mercerville is a large community located in the Hamilton Township. It is adjacent to another popular community, Hamilton Square. This area is rich with history – it was originally called Sandtown, and the area played an important role during the American Revolution. The Continental Army, led by George Washington, wove a path through Mercerville. Historic markers detail the events related to the night march, which led the army from the Second Battle of Trenton to the Battle of Princeton, both major American victories. The site of the Battle of Princeton is now Princeton Battlefield State Park, located just north of Mercer.
You’ll enjoy several historic sites, local and state parks, the Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park Trail, and much more after you’ve selected your Mercerville apartment for rent. You’ll be minutes from Princeton University, Mercer County Park, Rider University, and Mercer County Community College. Terrific nearby shopping destinations include Mercer Mall and Quaker Bridge Mall. Downtown Trenton is also just moments from Mercerville.
Once you’ve settled into your apartment in Mercerville, be sure to check out the oldest house in Mercer County – the Isaac Watson House, built in 1708. Another great location in the John Abbott II House, built in 1730. The house was a secret storage area for funds to help in the war effort against the British as they marched toward Trenton in 1776. Also located in Mercerville, the Isaac Pearson House, built in 1733, was home to Isaac Pearson, a state assemblyman who was killed by robbers who were supposedly working with the British. Mercerville is named for General Hugh Mercer, who died in 1777 after being wounded in the Battle of Princeton.
