Rumor has it that Creve Coeur takes its name from Creve Coeur Lake. Creve Coeur is French for heartbreak, and it is believed that an Indian girl with a broken heart committed suicide by jumping off the famous Dripping Springs.
Although the name is sad, the community isn’t. Creve Coeur is a beautiful suburban city on the western edge of St. Louis. With beautiful parks and several golf courses, this popular location draws many new residents. Find your Creve Coeur apartment and enjoy this lovely rural community just a short drive from downtown St. Louis.
Creve Coeur is home to several historic sites, including the Tappmeyer House, built by Frederick Wilheim and Adelia Tappmeyer in 1880. The house is located in Millennium Park. The Hackmann Cabin, located in Conway Park, was built in 1842. Another cabin, Clester Cabin, is also located in the park.
Park space is abundant in Creve Coeur. Millennium Park, one of the largest, covers 25 acres and includes a seasonal splash pad, a pavilion, two playgrounds, grills, ball fields, and a paved walking trail. Conway Park is another large park, featuring 29 acres. It includes a dog park, the historic cabins, tennis courts, a paved path with fitness stations, a tot lot, a playground, and a wildflower garden. Other parks include Malcom Terrace Park, LaVerne Collins Park, and Lake School Park.
Creve Coeur Lake Memorial Park is located nearby and is one of the largest parks in the St. Louis County Parks System. This park includes the lake, picnic areas, an archery course, and the Crystal Springs Quarry Golf Course. A walking trail winds around the lake.
