Newark, DE Apartments for Rent

Newark can trace its beginnings to the early 1600s, when a group of colonists settled along the Christina and White Clay Creeks. The soil along the creeks was ideal for farming, and a small village developed. In 1758, King George II recognized the village with a charter.

As home to one of the oldest universities in the nation, Newark is arguably one of the earliest college towns. The University of Delaware began in 1743, when a petition was issued by a minister. The first class of the new school became influential leaders – three of whom signed the Declaration of Independence.

Those choosing to rent a Newark apartment will enjoy cheering on the Fightin’ Blue Hens. Although slightly unusual as a university mascot, the name dates back to the Revolutionary War and how local troops passed the time – by holding cockfights with a breed of chicken known as the Kent County Blue Hen.

Stroll along Main Street and you’ll feel as if you’ve stepped back in time. The gorgeous architecture and narrow, tree-lined streets are ideal for shoppers, and boutiques, restaurants, coffee houses, and other businesses populate the area. Historic locations in Newark include Cooch-Dayett Mills, a grist mill constructed in 1838. Today, the mill is used for education programs.

Located between Philadelphia and Baltimore in New Castle County, Newark residents enjoy easy access to both cities. They also enjoy amazing parks, which dot the area around Newark. White Clay Creek State Park, Iron Hill Park, and the Middle Run Valley Natural area are just a few parks surrounding Newark.
