Ridgement Apartments for Rent(hide neighborhood information)
Ridgement is a community in southwest Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, less than three miles from the downtown area. This community is roughly bound by Kearns Avenue and the railroad tracks on the north and Interstate 376 on the east and south. The community’s western boundary is harder to define, but starts with McKenna Avenue on the south and extends in to Hamburg and Springfield Streets near the neighborhood’s midsection before extending back out toward the interstate on the south. The zip code for this Allegheny County community is 15220. Area communities include Westwood, Beechville, Wambash, and Green Tree.
Although none of them are located immediately within community boundaries, Ridgement is situated within a short distance of several area parks. These include Westwood Park, Suella/Hemlock Park, and Grandview Park. Also referred to as Grand View Scenic Byway Park, the latter is a large city park that spans 280 acres surrounding Pittsburgh’s Duquesne Heights and Mt. Washington neighborhoods. It represents a consolidation of smaller parks, playing fields, forested hillsides, greenways, and neglected land, which officially became known as one of the city’s regional parks on Earth Day 2007.
There isn’t a great deal more to see and do near the Ridgement community, but the bordering interstate provides a nearly direct route into downtown Pittsburgh, which is approximately a quick seven-minute drive away.
Once on the other side of the river, residents of Ridgement enjoy access to a variety of things to see and do, including live music venues, theaters, and art galleries. The downtown area also hosts several medical centers and prominent higher education options like Duquesne University, Carnegie Mellon University, and the University of Pittsburgh. Sports fans head to this area to see Major League Baseball’s Pittsburgh Pirates play at PNC Park or to cheer on the Pittsburgh Steelers National Football League team at Heinz Stadium.
