North Side Apartments for Rent(hide neighborhood information)
The North Side neighborhood is in the 15214 zip code area of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The jagged northern boundary follows the topography as it crosses through the hilly region claiming the tips of the winding roadways, as it invisibly connects Route 65 and Route 19 with the Interstate 279. The Interstate acts as a mentor to the eastern line as they travel in tandem falling across many side streets. East Ohio Street catches the pair in the south and passes the border off to the 65th Infantry Division Memorial Highway, as the Ohio River Boulevard finishes off the west.
To the north of the neighborhood is the Alleghany Observatory, a part of the Physics and Astronomy Department at the University of Pittsburgh. A group of wealthy industrialists calling themselves the Alleghany Telescope Association founded the observatory in 1859; by 1867 the facility was donated to the university. To the east and across the river from the neighborhood is the Pittsburgh Ballet Theater, opened during the 1970-1971 performance season.
South of the North Side neighborhood is the Byham Theater, opened Halloween night in 1904, and to the west of the neighborhood is the Montour Heights Country Club, with a 6.719-yard, par 72 course, built in 1987.
The Pennsylvania Port Authority provides public transportation through the cooperation of buses and light rail, with wide pedestrian walkways for busy foot traffic through the neighborhood. This neighborhood has more bike lanes then a typical city community.
