Jenkintown is a borough in North Philadelphia, roughly 10 miles from downtown. This popular suburban community has a major SEPTA stop, the Jenkintown-Wyncote train station. The station is one of the area’s busiest, averaging about 1,655 passengers every weekday.

The borough of Jenkintown was originally settled around 1697. It was named for a pioneer settler named William Jenkins. Today, Jenkintown is a terrific residential neighborhood with a variety of apartments, duplexes, row houses, and single-family homes. Jenkintown also has some buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places, including the Jenkins’ Town Lyceum Building, constructed in 1839, and the Art Deco Strawbridge and Clothier Store, built in 1930.

Once you’ve discovered the perfect Jenkintown apartment for rent, be sure to mark your calendar for the annual Jenkintown Festival of the Arts. This popular event is a must, complete with live dance and music performances, featured artists, food vendors, a juried art show, and brew tents. Jenkintown has a beautiful, pedestrian-friendly downtown shopping district, several local parks, and is a short distance from Philadelphia attractions, the Cheltenham Square Mall, and Temple University.
