Located along the Pennsylvania and Ohio border, Sharon is a charming city with a small-town atmosphere. Just 75 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, this large metro area is close enough for weekend trips into the city. Sharon dates back to 1795 and prospered as a coal-mining center. Today, the city enjoys a diversified economy, but it still has strong ties to industry.
The Frank H. Buhl Mansion is a local landmark. This historic home, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was built in 1891. Its beautiful architectural features include arches, turrets, and stone finials. The building was converted to apartments.
Once you’ve settled into your Sharon apartment, visit some of the local landmarks. Daffin’s Candies, the world’s largest candy store, features a chocolate factory tour, complete with a candy sample and a tour. Marvel at the seven-foot chocolate rabbit and other artistic items on display in the factory.
Golfers will appreciate the Buhl Farm Park and Driving Range, the only free golf course in the United States. The park also contains a historic casino that opened in 1915, Lake Julia, the Julia F. Buhl Memorial Garden, a performing arts center, an arboretum, and more.
