Marshall Park, in southwest Portland, Oregon, is bordered by the neighborhoods of Markham on the west and north, Collins View to the east, South Burlingame to the north and Arnold Creek to the south. The area offers a more suburban, rural feel than neighborhoods near to the center of Portland. There are a variety of home styles here and residents range in age and family size.
Marshall Park itself is nearly 26 acres of natural areas, set in a 400 foot wide canyon which was a former quarry. The Tyron River runs through the canyon. The waterfall and small stone bridge that span the river are popular spots for picnickers. The park also features unpaved paths and trails for hiking, walking, and jogging. There are picnic tables and playground equipment. The park was donated to Portland in 1948 by F.C. and Addie Marshall. Other parks in the neighborhood include Jensen Natural Area and the Foley-Balmer Natural Area. The Maricara Natural Area features 2,600 feet of trails, plus wetland, protected streams and a second growth forest.
Residents of Marshall Park attend Capitol Hill Elementary, Jackson Middle School and Wilson High School. While the neighborhood offers a more rural feel, it’s a simple commute into the heart of Portland and the attractions offered there, including art museums, the zoo, historic landmarks, cafés, restaurants, and world-renowned nightlife.
