Birdshill is a heavily wooded neighborhood with large, upscale homes nestled among the trees. The Birdshill neighborhood is bordered on the west by Southwest Terwilliger Boulevard and on the east by the Willamette River. All of the properties that border the Willamette River have boat docks and piers.
On the other side of Southwest Terwilliger Boulevard is the Tryon Creek State Park, which is the only state park located within a large metropolitan area. Visitors can stroll or hike the nature trails, and cyclists can bike the paved trail that runs along the eastern edge of the park. Fishermen enjoy angling for steelhead trout in Tryon Creek, while others like to sit under the picnic shelters and watch the squirrels play. There is something for every outdoor enthusiast at the 645-acre park.
The Lewis and Clark College is located within the boundaries of the Birdshill neighborhood. It is a private liberal arts school.
Across the Willamette River from Birdshill is the private Waverly Country Club. It is the only platinum-rated club in the entire northwestern part of the country. Home to an 18-hole, par 72 golf course, it is a challenge for golfers of all levels. Not only is the Waverly Country Club a golf course, but it is also home to a swimming pool and the town’s best tennis court. The Club is set up to meet the social needs of the entire family.
