With a name that means “heart of the valley,” you know you’ve found someplace special, and Corvallis doesn’t disappoint with its green hills dotted with vineyards, meandering river, gorgeous downtown filled with shops and restaurants, and endless outdoor recreation. Corvallis is truly in the center of it all: about 90 miles south of Portland and about an hour from both the Pacific Coast and the Cascade Mountains. And the crowning gem resting in the midst of this ideal location: Oregon State University.

Founded in 1868, Oregon State University is one of two US universities to have all four designations: space grant, sea grant, land grant, and sun grant. The university features over 200 academic degree programs and is one of the city’s largest employers. Government is also a major employer – Corvallis is the county seat of Benton County.

Corvallis is a pedestrian-friendly, green city with many “green” buildings. Cyclists will appreciate the 60-plus miles of bike paths along the Willamette River, as well as within the city and into parks. Corvallis contains a farmer’s market, several fishing locations, and spots for rafting, golfing, and hiking.
