Riverview Apartments for Rent

Located just south of downtown Tulsa, the Riverview neighborhood is considered an important historic district. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Riverview district is comprised of four neighborhoods: Buena Vista, Carlton Place, Childer‘s Heights, and Stone Breaker Heights.

The neighborhood takes its name from Riverview Elementary School, which was once located on West Twelfth Street, but no longer exists. Riverview is bounded by Twelfth Street on the north, Riverside Drive on the south, Elwood and Denver Drives to the east, and Jackson Avenue on the west.

This community contains a rich trove of homes dating to the period of 1911 to 1938. The dominating styles are Bungalow and Craftsmen houses and apartments. Other popular architectural home styles include Colonial Revival, Prairie School, and Tudor Revival. There are also a number of larger, more stately houses built for leading Tulsa citizens during that period. These historic homes include the Bird House, the Clinton-Hardy House, the Kerr House, and the well known McBirney Mansion.

Other neighborhood highlights include the original Route 66 Bridge, the SoBo area known for its lively nightlife, Spotlight Theater, and the Ambassador Hotel. Following along miles of the Arkansas River is River Parks. With more than 25 miles of trails, the parks include ornate fountains, lush picnic areas, public sculpture, and children’s playground areas. Rugged hiking trails are available at the Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness Area, whose trailhead begins on Elwood.

For Riverview residents who prefer to exercise indoors, the neighborhood offers a full gym for those enrolling for one credit or more at nearby Tulsa Community College. The First Methodist Family Center has no membership fees for use of its gym. The newly constructed YMCA at Fifth and Main Streets is also drawing Riverview residents.
