Higher-education options near Cedarcrest include Oral Roberts University, located within walking distance north, along East 81st Street. This Christian university offers colleges of arts and cultural studies, science and engineering, theology and ministry, business, education, and nursing.

For outdoor recreation, residents are less than two miles west of Hunter Park. Additional attractions can be found a few miles west of this community, on the other side of the river. These include the Richard Lloyd Jones Jr. Airfield and the South Lakes Golf Course, situated on either side of East 91st Street South.
