Glen Oaks is a small community of about 160 single-family homes, located in the northwestern suburbs of Oklahoma City. This suburb is part of the city of Edmond school district, which is known for its highly rated public schools.
The Glen Oaks neighborhood is located just north of the Kirkpatrick Turnpike, off of Western Avenue. More specifically, the neighborhood is east of Walker Avenue between Northwest 137th Street and Northwest 143rd Street. The major streets of Glen Oaks include Glen Oaks Place, Oakmond Road and Northwest 140th Street. The zip code for the neighborhood is 73013.
The houses were built with frame construction and clad with brick. Though there is uniformity of design throughout the neighborhood, variation is cleverly introduced in the detail of each home. Particular houses are finished with bay windows or touches of Federalist or Italianate detail. Yards are sizable and well kept, usually with shade trees.
There are many recreational opportunities available in the Glen Oaks area. Quail Creek and Kickingbird are two private golf courses nearby. For people who like to fish, Arcadia Lake, an Edmond city park, has a covered, heated, fishing pier for angling in every season. The lake also offers boating and waterskiing in spring and summer, as well as riding, hiking, and camping on surrounding park lands.
