Will Rogers, Oklahoma’s favorite son, was born in 1879 in what was then Oologah Indian territory. He made 71 movies (most of them silent) and wrote more than 4,000 newspaper columns. Claremore, Oklahoma prides itself as the home of Will Rogers, and has several historical locations dedicated to the world-famous figure.
The Will Rogers Memorial Museum consists of nine galleries with a plethora of artifacts and memorabilia. Will Rogers Birthplace Ranch, located in Will Rogers State Historic Park, has self-guided tours of his home. Overlooking Oologah Lake, this popular park also has hiking trails, horseback trails, and picnic areas.
Rogers State University is over 100 years old. Established in 1909, the university began as a preparatory school, then became a military academy, then a junior college. The name changed to Rogers State University in 1996, and it now offers bachelor degree programs.
Historic Downtown Claremore has over 300 antique and collectable shops, walking tours, and 50s-era diners. As interesting as it is beautiful, Claremore is a great apartment renting location.
