Franklin Park with its Conservatory is located in the western section of Near East. The Conservatory has over 400 plants and provides a perfect place to enjoy the tropics, especially during the colder months. It features a shop and a garden café.

Alum Creek Trail goes through Nelson Park on the eastern border of the Near East neighborhood. The trail is multi-use and welcomes runners, walkers and bikers. Nelson Park is 30 acres of trees and open space, along with a playground, picnic area and shelter, athletic fields and basketball courts.

When residents want to go grocery shopping, there is a Kroger Supermarket on East Main Street, along with many other local businesses and restaurants in the Near East neighborhood.
