Old Dominion University is a state university located in Norfolk, Virginia. It was established in 1930 as the Norfolk Division of the College of William & Mary.
The university has an AACSB accredited school of business, and its professors have received 25 Virginia Outstanding Faculty Awards, the highest honor for teaching in the state. Old Dominion is rated Best Southeastern College by Princeton Review, is ranked in the Top 15 for Global Management MBA by Entrepreneur magazine, and is ranked by US News and World Report in the Top 100 Graduate Schools of Education.
Located in the metropolitan Hampton Roads region of coastal Virginia, one of the world’s major seaports, Old Dominion is a public research institution. Its research teams generate $88 million in annual funding through more than 400 ongoing projects in areas such as marine science, aerospace, ship design and construction, advanced electronics and nuclear physics.
In an effort to transform the way higher education interacts with businesses and promote economic development in Virginia, the university has launched the ODU Business Gateway, a business-friendly, single-entry point to the intellectual capital, innovative technologies and world-class infrastructure of the university.
The business gateway is unique in Virginia and one of only a few in the nation. Its services include, among other offerings, entrepreneurial consulting; advanced manufacturing and technology solutions; and training and professional development.
Former students include poet Maya Angelou, former President Jimmy Carter, assistant “Tonight Show” band leader Tommy Newsom and actress Deborah Shelton.
