As one of South Carolina’s oldest universities, Furman University was established in 1826. It is a private, liberal arts college with an enrollment of about 3,200. A beautiful campus featuring Georgian-style architecture echoes Greenville’s Southern history.

At the heart of the 750-acre campus is a large lake. Near the Bell Tower on the lake, students enjoy Southern Living magazine’s first “green” Showcase Home, the Shi Center. The campus also features walking trails, including part of the Swamp Rabbit Trail, which extends 11 miles from downtown Greenville to Travelers Rest. The university also has its own semi-private, 18-hold golf course considered one of the best in South Carolina.

The university is located about six miles north of downtown Greenville, just west of Paris Mountain State Park.
