Lafayette College Area Apartments for Rent
When General Lafayette, the last living French General of the Revolutionary War, toured the United States for nearly a year in 1824-25, he did so with much fanfare – he had served alongside George Washington and was part of many crucial battles, so he was invited by President James Monroe to come to the US and help celebrate the nation’s 50th anniversary.
Inspired by the visit, the citizens of Easton decided to name their newly-formed college in honor of the General. Lafayette College was founded in 1826 and is a private liberal arts and engineering college. Lafayette offers BA degrees in 35 fields and BS degrees in 10 fields of science and 4 fields of engineering.
The 340-acre campus is located in Easton, a charming Lehigh Valley city roughly 35 miles south of the Pocono Mountains. The 60 buildings that make up the college are centered around a large green space called the Quad. The largest building on campus is Pardee Hall, while the Kirby Hall of Civil Rights was one of the most expensive, built with travertine marble.
The Lafayette Leopards participate in NCAA Division I as part of the Patriot League. The football program is one of the oldest in the nation, first organized in 1882. The team holds six Patriot League championships and has enjoyed ten undefeated seasons. They are rivals with nearby Lehigh University. The Leopards play at Fisher Field, a 13,132-seat stadium that opened in 1926.
