United States Military Academy Area Apartments for Rent
West Point is the oldest, continuously-operating army post in the US. It was first occupied by the Continental Army in 1778, where a bend in the Hudson River was the ideal location for the Continental Army to stop British Royal Navy ships from sailing up the river between the Colonies. The name was changed to Fort Clinton after Benedict Arnold, the commander at West Point at the time, committed treason by trying to sell the fort to the British.
After the war, Fort Clinton was abandoned and eventually demolished, making way for the United States Military Academy in 1802. The United States Military Academy at West Point is a National Historic Landmark, containing various historic sites, monuments, and buildings. It is also home to the oldest museum in the US Army.
USMA is a four-year federal service academy located about 50 miles north of New York City in West Point, New York. It is an extremely selective institution, and in addition to applying, candidates must be nominated – usually by a Senator or Representative. Students become part of the United States Corps of Cadets and tuition is fully funded by the Army in exchange for active duty service upon graduation.
