Small but mighty, Drake University has a reputation for excellence. Established in 1881, Drake is a selective, private university located on a 150-acre campus in Des Moines.
The law school is one of the oldest in the country, dating to 1865. The Drake Constitutional Law Center is one of four constitutional law programs established by Congress and funded by the government. A national constitutional law lecture series takes place annually and has featured many Supreme Court Justices, including Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Antonin Scalia, Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, William Rehnquist, John G. Roberts, and Anthony M. Kennedy.
Drake University’s other colleges include the College of Business and Public Administration, the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Education, the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, and the College of Pharmacy and Health Services. Within its six colleges, Drake offers over 70 majors.
The Drake Bulldogs compete in NCAA Division I as part of the Missouri Valley Conference in all sports except football, where it competes in NCAA Division I Pioneer Football League. The football team competes at Drake Stadium, where the team has won ten conference championships. The Knapp Center, home to the basketball team, was built in 1992 and is also used for concerts, lectures, and commencement.
