Washington Apartments for Rent(hide neighborhood information)
The Washington neighborhood is education central. It is flanked on its western edge by North Dakota State University-Fargo and on the northeast by the University of North Dakota School of Medicine. In between these centers of learning is North High School on 17th Avenue North, which services much of northern Fargo. The presence of Ben Franklin Middle School on Eighth Street North and Washington Elementary on Broadway Drive North makes sure all ages are covered in this family-friendly area.
Just west of the medical school is Percy Godwin Park, on 19th Avenue North, which offers tree-shrouded picnic areas and five tennis courts. On the southeastern end is El Zagel Golf Course, along Elm Street North. The Northside Recreational Pool is just west of the high school. The banks of the Red River are to the east, within walking distance. The Latter Rain Ministries Church on Fifth Street North is in the center of Washington. Two blocks farther south on Seventh Street North is Holy Spirit Church.
Several homes here date back to the early 1900s, when this was rural farmland. Parts of Washington were annexed to the city of Fargo in stages, beginning in 1921 and on through 1956. Development in the area took off in the mid-1960s, with single-family homes springing up. Later construction added duplexes, apartments, and condos to the mix.
The greatest assortment of restaurants is along 19th Avenue North, where you can find well-known fast-food outlets like McDonald’s and Burger King, as well as Pizza Hut and the Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar, across from the Fargo Air Museum. Hector International Airport is northwest of the neighborhood. Fargo’s MAT transit service has several routes throughout the community.
