Located south of Apex, the fairly new neighborhood of Winslowe offers an assortment of single-family homes and apartments on tree-lined streets with lots of open space. Most of the homes were built in the mid 1990s. Before that it was rural farmland. This is the type of neighborhood where there are flowers in the yard as well as the occasional vegetable patch. Winslowe is rather small, framed by James Street on the north and South Hughes Street on the east. Cordell Place enters into the center of Winslow forming a cul-de-sac.
Schools in the area include Apex Middle School on East Williams Street and Apex Elementary on Tingen Road. The closest secondary school is Apex High on Laura Duncan Road, less than two miles north. Houses of worship are also nearby. One block east is the New Horizons Fellowship on East Williams Street. Heading south on South Hughes Street leads to the Potter’s Hand Bible Church. To the north on that same street is the Apex United Methodist Church.
Winslowe is a block west of East Williams Street with all of its shops, stores, and restaurants. Grocery stores include two Kangaroo Express stores and Scott’s Galaxy Foods. Eateries selling pizza, wings, and Mexican food are also along this commercial corridor. Highway 1, leading to Raleigh and North Carolina State University, is less than a mile to the east. The Holiday Inn Express Hotel is at the junction of Highway 1 and East Williams Street.
Also available two miles to the northwest are the Beaver Creek Crossing and Beaver Creek Commons shopping malls. Between the two stores big named brands such as Target, TJ Maxx, and Lowe’s are on offer, as are an assortment of restaurants including the Longhorn Steakhouse and Chili’s.
