The Eno River State Park is not considered an urban park, but a 2,700-acre wilderness park with 21 miles of established hiking trails available to urban dwellers. Named after the Eno Indians who lived along the river long before the arrival of European settlers, the park became part of the North Carolina state park system in 1973. It is a favorite place for hiking and nature walks. Outdoor enthusiasts also use the Eno River State Park for fishing, canoeing and camping.
