The Timber Ridge neighborhood just west of downtown Knightdale is so pet friendly that the community newsletter devotes column space to finding homes for abandoned animals. Among the pet services listed on the webpage of the homeowner’s association is the Waggity Tail Bakery, offering Peanut Butter Paws and Apple Cinnamon Drooler pet treats. And then there is the Happy Home Pet Sitters, located right in Timber Ridge. All of this in an area that really didn’t start to grow until the mid-1980s.
Most of the homes in Timber Ridge are single family structures, but there are a few townhomes, apartments and mobile homes. Parkside Commons Drive is the only way into the triangular shaped neighborhood, composed of curved streets, several cul-de-sacs and in some cases large, but oddly shaped lots. The lack of through traffic and the tree lined streets make Timber Ridge pedestrian friendly. The wooded country side and farmland east and west of the neighborhood give the area a quiet, rural atmosphere.
Schools are located outside of Timber Ridge, with the closest being the Filmore Academy to the northeast and Lockhart Elementary School to the north. Older children would attend the Knightdale High School, also to the north. The Knightdale Baptist Church is the closest house of worship.
Following Interstate 540 north to Knightdale Boulevard leads to the business corridor and the Shoppers at Midway Plantation Mall. Big name brands such as Target and Best Buy are represented. A restaurant row along Knightdale Boulevard offers the Lone Star Steakhouse & Saloon, Arby’s, and a Krispy Kreme.
