Appropriately named, this neighborhood is carved out of semi-wooded grasslands southwest of downtown Knightdale. Meadows Circle is the only road in and out and it ends in a cul-de-sac edged by large homes on even larger oddly shaped lots. A few of those homes have backyards that lead to Turfgrass Lake Number Two, a local fishing hole. To the north is a lightly populated area, but to the east and west are tilled farmland and largely untamed woodlands.
Development started in the 1940s, but it was very slow until the 1970s. Most of the homes are single family, built during the 1990s. A few apartments and mobile homes are also part of the Meadows. The neighborhood is fairly isolated, quiet and pedestrian-friendly within the local area. Public transit offers no service to this part of Knightdale.
Schools are located outside of the Meadows, the closest being Knightdale Elementary and Knightdale High. The Cathy Lee Child Development pre-school is only a half mile away. The Knightdale Church of God is within walking distance of the neighborhood. A bit farther out are the Knightdale Baptist Church and the Agape Christian Center.
A few restaurants and shops are in downtown Knightdale, but most are along the business corridor to the north, Route 64. Follow this road west and the Shoppes at Midway Plantation Mall is on the right near Interstate 540. Ross Dress For Less, Target, and Best Buy are all available. Dozens of restaurants and fast food outlets line Route 64. The mall itself has a line-up of restaurants on its southern end, including Chili’s and the Lone Star Steakhouse & Saloon.
