Sunset Hills is a small, moderately populated area of Raleigh. It’s primarily residential and convenient to many of the major cultural and natural attractions of the city of Raleigh. The large majority of the homes in Sunset Hills are single-family detached houses of various styles.

North Carolina State University is located south of the Sunset Hills neighborhood. Its College of Veterinary Medicine serves the community and sees pets, as well. Meredith College is only about a mile southwest of the community, while North Carolina State College is just over a mile south of Sunset Hills.

The Crabtree Valley Mall, located only two miles north of Sunset Hills, provides quality area shopping at such places as the popular Apple Store. Along with stores, there is a food court. Gallery C is about a half-mile from the neighborhood — it is an art center in the midst of the Cameron Village shopping center.

Sunset Hills is an eco-friendly community. It’s easy to stroll along the sidewalks of the tree-lined neighborhood city streets, and residents don’t have to drive everywhere they want to go. Several stores are within walking distance, including the ecologically aware Whole Foods Market, which is only about a half-mile from Sunset Hills.

Pullen Park, a massive, 72-acre park, is only two miles from Sunset Hills, within easy driving distance for daily visits by neighborhood residents. It has the antique Pullen Park Carousel, which is still enjoyed by children. There are also kiddie boats and pedal boats for use in the park’s large pond. The park’s own aquatic center has an Olympic-sized swimming pool and an outdoor patio. It has lit tennis courts, sheltered picnic areas, two multiple-purpose ball fields, and the Theatre In the Park, which hosts many shows. Walking paths and bridges are abundant in the park.
