St. James is a neighborhood in the small town of Wilson, North Carolina located southeast of downtown. Lipscomb Road East is on the north and east and Nash Street East on the south. The streets on the edges are quite busy and the homes are few and far between. There are lots of open spaces with woods and meadows. There is a mix of light commercial and industrial as well.
B. O. Barnes Elementary School is located within St. James. It offers classes to students in kindergarten to fifth grade. It is a popular choice with students and parents and received a GreatSchools community rating of 4/5. Charles H. Darden Middle School is located just to the north of this community. Classes are offered at this school for children in sixth to eighth grades.
Wilson, North Carolina is home to some very beautiful floral gardens. They are a source of pride to St. James’ residents, as well as an attraction to visitors. There are three gardens in town that can be enjoyed; the smallest is the Library Rose Garden which is in bloom from mid-April through October, and features hybrid tea roses. The Wilson Rose garden has over 1,000 roses and offers a wide variety of different species of rose from old garden to the more modern adaptations. There is an adjacent picnic area. The Wilson Botanical Gardens is open year round and features of variety of trees, perennials and the always-popular butterfly garden.
In downtown Wilson, the former courthouse has been converted into Imagination Station. It is a place where children and adults can learn and explore science and technology.
The corner where Nash Street meets Lipscomb Road has a Dollar General and a Food Lion, making basic shopping very convenient for the residents of St. James.
