One of the many appealing aspects of living in the Spring Street community is Taylor Street Park, which lies in the northern section of the neighborhood. This picturesque park features a playground, a picnic shelter, and the Alston-Massenburg Center. A short distance to the east is Ailey Young Park. This popular 15-acre neighborhood park has basketball courts, a baseball field, a playground, and picnic facilities.
Kids enjoy visiting the Wake Forest Library. This busy facility offers a wide variety of programs for kids of all ages, including “Baby and Me” classes, “Twilight Tale” story time, and “Friday Night Pizza and Pages” for 6th to 12th graders.
Spring Street residents who enjoy fishing flock to Durant Nature Park, located to the south. This 237-acre park features two lakes, and includes a boathouse. Fishing is permitted from the boathouse dock, and banks. Anglers can expect to catch a wide variety of fish, such as perch, and large-mouth bass. Freshwater fishing tournaments are often held at the park.
The Durant Nature Park also features five miles of hiking trails that pass through hardwood and pine forests, wildflower fields, and next to streams. Mountain biking is allowed on some of the trails when the weather permits. The park also has picnic sites, and a playground.
