The historic town of Cary is near Ridgemont. Settlers lived in Cary and Ridgemont for over one hundred years, but it was the North Carolina Railroad that established these railroad towns. The Page-Walker home was built in 1868 by Allison Francis Page. The building’s architecture was in French Second Empire and considered a rare architectural style used in a small North Carolina town. The home later became the Walker Hotel when it changed hands in 1884. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Today, the Page-Walker Arts and History Center gives guided tours to visitors.
North Carolina is a state offering a variety of fishing opportunities in its lakes, ponds, streams, and rivers. The Shearon Harris Reservoir is close to Ridgemont. Although smallmouth bass, crappie, and catfish are favorites in most lakes, the focus for anglers at the reservoir is the largemouth bass. There are local reports of anglers catching bass weighing up to five pounds, but the competition continues for catching much bigger fish.
Shoppers have the Prime Outlets at Morrisville, a factory store and outlet center serving The Triangle. National stores include Bass Shoes, Samsonite Company Store, and Van Heusen. Hungry shoppers can stop at the restaurants located in the mall.
