On Lincoln Court in downtown Raleigh is a small and tidy community called Lincoln Terrace. The community is actually a group of single family homes contained by New Bern Avenue, South Tarboro Street, South Pedigree Street and East Martin Street.
Located in downtown, Raleigh offers Lincoln Terrace residents lots of perks. To the west, Marbles Kids Museum, the Imax Theater, the North Carolina State Capital and the Governor’s mansion are within walking distance. Or, Lincoln Terrace residents can walk north to Saint Augustine’s College, beautiful Oakwood Park and historic Oakwood Cemetery. The cemetery was established in 1869 and is the resting place for many of Raleigh’s founding citizens and unknown confederate soldiers. It is surrounded by Victorian era homes and is a popular stop on the historic Raleigh tour circuit. All the historic homes and sites are identified by markers, and maps are widely available.
There are plenty of restaurants. It is also easy to find street vendors, offering traditional hotdogs and other choices close to the museums and there are plenty of benches and resting spots as well.
Downtown Raleigh has several churches with beautiful Gothic revival style architecture that still offer services for modern congregations. Families can also visit Roberts Park, which is only a block away on nearby East Martin Street. The park has an active community center, and there is a very lively volleyball league that regularly practices at Roberts Park.
If Lincoln Terrace residents ever want to leave Raleigh proper, they have several options. There are abundant Capital Area Transit bus stops in downtown Raleigh, with routes to several destinations in the triangle. It is also quite easy to get to major highways from downtown Raleigh.
